Our Plans for 2009 – We Need Your Support
“Of all the forms of inequality, healthcare injustice is the most shocking and inhumane.” - Martin Luther King, Jr.
The goal of the Health Care for America Education Fund (HCAEF) and Health Care for America Now (HCAN) is to create a nationwide movement to win the implementation of health care reform that conforms to carefully-developed principles, expressed in a Statement of Common Purpose. HCAEF and HCAN will build a base of grassroots activism and a national movement at all levels of the democracy that will give powerful voice to the growing demand for action, advance the agenda for health care change, and answer those forces who argue that substantial governmental involvement is not necessary to guarantee quality affordable health care for all.
All of HCAEF’s projects aim to educate and provide resources for the public, small business owners, policymakers, and media on issues around health care for all. These issues include:
- Identification of the uninsured and underinsured
- Costs of the uninsured to individuals and society
- Links between insurance and health outcomes
With over 40 million people uninsured in the U.S. and millions more underinsured and not able to pay the increasing costs of care, and with health care identified as a top priority for a majority of the U.S. population, 2009 is the year that major health care reform needs to happen. HCAEF’s projects are taking the lead to achieve that goal.
